Popped my Barra cherry. Heads off and sent off to Powerhouse engines in Warragul for a freshen up. Block deck and pistons are filthy so will spend a lot of time with the WD-40 and some scotch bright to get those back to looking good. She was definitely burning a lot of oil the poor old girl. A couple of snappy pics for those interested.

I realise this thread shouldn't even be here but this is the forum section I spend all of my time in so it feels like home.

Always liked the turbo Barra as it was/is a great engine. And the fact it’s from Ford doesn’t matter to me as I can appreciate good designs wherever it comes from.

On the flip side, I have no issue bagging bad stuff that comes from anyone including Holden (which sometimes doesn’t go down well on this forum).

To be honest, I always preferred over head cam designs so the GM-Lotus LT5 and now the GM LT6 was/is looked at with admiration… Still, pushrods designs aren’t too bad though you do loose the ability for intake and exhaust VVT but putting lifters under the head is a fcuked up design choice that makes cam swapping unnecessarily more expensive which takes away one of simplicities of the pushrod design that I liked… I see that as a bit of a GM foot shot but that’s common of GM (they usually solve their foot shots via chapter 11 and a restructure thus moving problems to pension funds :eek:)…

Guess I’m an equal opportunity liked & hater :p:p:p

But enough of that side of politics. I am interested to see more of the Barra rebuild progress :cool:
