Piston to valve clearance.. No idea how its checked.. Keen to know also.
Put some plaster on top of piston, bolt head down and slowly rotate engine, if valve hits piston and stops the engine turning then no harm done if done carefully. Otherwise pull heads off and look at the valve imprint on plaster and see how thick it is to the piston.

Any idea what sort of clearance is required?
Ie: could I check mine and decide to machine a couple more thousandths of the head?
Yeah that's what I figured. Brenno u would need to know spec of your cam to match the clearance so u don't shave too much off but don't take my word for it as I don't have a lot of knowledge with these ls engines
