piston slap is normal L77 vf redline

LS is a GM motor not Holden. That aside as the other boys have said slap is common just isn't audible in every motor. You've likely owned non GM motors that do this also... you just couldn't hear it. Mine slaps every morning so I treat her nice and then once the rattles disappear ram 11 pounds down its throat.

As above, i drive mine easy for the first 5 or 10 mins til nice and warm and no probs. 150,000 trouble free Ks on the VE SS, 45k on the VF.
The noise you don't want is the ticking/ rattling lifters at start up. That's when you're heading for trouble. My VY 5.7 got that rattle at around 90,000 ks which increased to occasional loud ticking when driving and eventually ended up needing some pricey repairs at 135,000ks
