scanners arent illegal to have there only illegal to have when you broadcast what is being aired ...to the public ive asked police officers myself ... i know this thread is old but anyway and i have 2 scanners i live in qld

As far as I know, and Im into radios/scanning, All Citys are Encrypted Apco 25 digital networks (in english - Their all "Digital") (un encrypted digital networks can be scanned with a digital scanner compatable with the network your trying to scan - but all the police ones are encrypted.)

Yes, the Motorola Apco systems most AU police use (or will be using shortly) are digital and encrypted. They are also trunked digital radio, which makes listening for any kind of nefarious purposes impractical. Pls don't ask me what trunked radio is or that a mate told you it was something else, because I've been involved in a few too many of those discussions lately......
