G'day,

Just went outside to move the car and found a heap of power steering fluid on the driveway.

Can anyone tell me where its coming from? If its common? And what it will cost to fix??

I have taken 2 pics which are the links below, it seems to be dripping off the bottom of the 2 metal tube things that you can see in the pics. I'm guessing they are something to do with power steering and the steering rack.

Any help would be great

Thanks a heap.

Use macro mode for close-up photos - the ones you posted are very fuzzy.

jump in start the engine and get under and look around while someone turns the wheel.Top up fluid first with auto trans fluid(gx3 castrol i think). Whilst the system is operating you may see where its leaking from.AND if ur lucky it might only be a crappy hose or something simple.(if your lucky that is..lol ). good luck.

First locate the power steering fluid reservoir - then follow both black hoses to the pump and the rack looking for fresh fluid leaks. If necessary use degreaser to improve visibility.
Plenty of places for it to leak!

yeah the above post is your best bet, clean the whole area and anything near it, good excuse to make under your bonnet squeeky clean really.

Then drive it a bit and do plenty of slow speen manouvers.

get back under and have a look, chances are you will see the leak almost straight away.

I had the same problem but have no time to book the car in atm to get it fixed so there is a couple of ways to get around it :p

1) Be lazy and just keep topping it up every few days
2)Take the reservoir of ( think you have to remove belt and pully, then theres like 3-4bolts) and replace the o ring

Or be like me and buy septone power steering fluid + Stop leak and keep topping it up with that, now mine has fully stopped leaking till i can get it to a machenic
