hi all
i recently discovered i was using a lot of the power steering fuild in my 02 vx
then it started to smoke
i have changed the pump however its still leaking apon looking under the car there is a build up of fluid in the rh boot with a crack on top so i assumed the splash from the boot is hitting the exhaust manifold creating the smoke
i have thought about replacing the tie rods and ends not sure if this will help,?
i am trying to get out of replacing the whole rack
whats the cheapest diy fix (i have 2 mths left of rego is it best to try and fix or sell the car )
i think its the oring in the rack what are the chances of mechanics just replacing it and/or is it possible for it to be the tie rod
yes i get that i sound dum but i am trying to get a bit more mechanical understanding of these repairs

Replacing the tie rod end won't fix it, the seal in the rack is the culprit. A reconditioned rack would be your best bet.

Yup. The teflon seal in the rack is kaput and it's not really an easy fix for the average home mechanic.
