I need some ideas........

I recently replaced the stock tank on my LS1 with a black Aeroflow tank. I jacked the car and bleed the system, however after the car gets hot it starts to make a whining sound. Almost like a little supercharger. It also gets louder when turning corners and changes tone with engine RPM.

On cold start up and the first 5-10 minutes of driving there is no noise.

This only became noticeable after the Aeroflow tank was installed. I am thinking the tank may be aerating the system?

The factory tank has baffles and the Aeroflow seems not too.

Has any one had a similar issue?

It’s not a common thing for people who use those reservoirs. It could be pure coincidence the pump has crapped out.

I cut the O-Ring under the cap on these to give the reservoir a pathway to vent pressure/relieve vacuum through the cap threads.

It’s just a fluid power circuit in this respect so if it can’t vent, the reservoir will pressurise slightly when running steady state and then pull some vacuum when drawing fluid whilst steering. That said, and unlike a normal fluid power circuit, power steering cylinders are generally symmetrical so there shouldn’t be big enough fluid level change to create pump vacuum cavitation. Give it a go (or loosen the cap a bit), it won’t hurt and might help.

there is usually a hole in the cap that it vents thru in the aftermarket tanks

Seems to be hit and miss unfortunately. Mine and some others were all without vent holes which surprised me a bit. Only one of that set was an Aeroflow but still no hole.

I recently rebuilt the motor and it made 430 at the wheels….quite possible the dyno could have killed the pump

Thanks I’ll try that. My cap does have a small hole but I’ll see how it goes…..
I did notice the reservoir to pump hose is slightly pinched due to it being slightly bigger as well

If it has a hole then my suggestion won’t make any difference.

A pinched suction hose could cause the issue you’re describing though.

If it's aerating the fluid it should be obvious to see when you remove the cap.

I too would be looking at fixing or replacing that main suction hose.

I’ll try shortening the hose to straighten it and see how that goes, cheers
