can you explain this a bit more? I've had major P/steering drama's over the past year and a half, turns out that variable steer crap doesn't like burnouts.

Only thing i can think of for you is, that theres a small blockage, like some of the inside of the line's have come away, or even a crimped line somewhere.
If i were you, i'd keep a fire extinguisher in the car, just incase something worse does happen.

well i decided id replace the power steering pump incase that was the cause as i had a spare one and discoverd that the vq had been played with before by some hack as all the bolt heads were rough and the high pressure thread was damaged so i pulled the hose of went to replace it and found that the spare vn one i had is different so i will get a new one 2morrow fit it and see how it is if it dont work well of to the mechanics we go

well it turns out that it is probally something contaminating the oil and the rack pump and lines have to be removed kitted and replaced its not going to be a cheap or easy exercise my mechanic says its a (ford) of a job to do so no VQ till thursday

lesson learnt just cause it dont have a factory filter doesnt mean u dont need one

Did you end up getting this fixed? I've had the same problem with my vp calais for ages ut its getting worse now. My power steering went from really light to nothing between the left and right bend of an s bend. I ended up well and truly on the wrong side of the road.

hey

Ive got a vp calais and i lost my power steering to. i got a new rack pump and high pressure line. Never had a problem since, if the variable assist rack stuffs up basically u gotta replace the whole system cause the rack sends small fragments throught the whole steering system!

Hey - Bloody Vn - Vp & VQ Power Steering are not the best design :ranting: a guy i know with a 89 vn calais has replaced his rack 3 times in 2 yrs--- fark!

Try a power steering specialist mate or ur mechanic.

My VQ did it to me for about a week, and then just failed altogether when my GFwas driving it.

It was the pump in my case. Refurbished the pump and havnt had a problem since.

ok I'll talk to my old man about flushing the system and putting in a filter. Then if that doesn't work I'll start looking at the more expensive options. A calais without power steering isn't fun parking lots are a major pain in the arse.
