Hi all. I saw an ad recently which claimed that a tuning company could reprogram the standard ECM in an Evoke 3 litre to give it the same power characteristics of the 3.6 litre motor. The cost? $360 all up. My questions are these:
1. Is this really possible?
2. Will geeing up the ECM cause mechanical or electrical problems?

I know that fuel economy will go south...that's a given but I am wary of fiddling with the engine's ECM if it might cause damage.
Opinions?

Its just a tune in the same way they tune the v8 variants by modifying the ecu.
As for the actual power made i guess a dyno would be able to show that.

Well, they claim it is more than a tune because they re-write the ECM Eprom's programming for the acceleration, fuel mix and rev-curve settings.

I'm an old guy. "Tuning" used to mean changing plugs and points, setting the timing and putting in a clean air filter. :)

modern turning is all computerized with remapping the ecu or installing a custom ecu like a haltech.
if you wanted to do mechanical mods like otr and exhaust etc then you want to do those before you get it tuned

Well...I need to do some thinking...mainly is it worth tinkering with the ECM (for fear of doing physical damage to the motor) or just pull my head in and live with the car the way it is.

In the USA, there were different maps for the 3 litre HFV6: Cadillacs had a mere 5 HP more than Chev donks. The 3.6 litre has about 20% more torque than the 3 litre. To achieve that, would be doubtful unless you completely disregard emissions.
