G'day

I am interested in replacing a tired 3.3 motor with an Ecotec motor and have a couple of questions that I have not been able to find answers for.

I have acquired a complete auto S1 VS with dents and a complete auto S2 VN with dents for not much money. I also have a Supra 5 speed conversion kit to fit the Ecotec. I previously read matt's thread about his "Ecotec to VN" conversion and that sounds like the way to go, VN computer running the Ecotec.
Questions:
Does anybody know the weight difference between a 3.3 and an Ecotec?
Will I need to play with the front springs?
Is the Ecotec really narrower than a the earlier V6?
If so by how much?

Regards
Chris

P.S. Matt can you repost your "how-to" with pictures? please?

Ecotec would be lighter than the older 202 I'd reckon. Older Buick V6 will give you 127 kilowatts while the ecotec will give you 147 kilowatts no contest really.

Why not a Gen 3 conversion? Power to weight ratio would be crazy!

G'day

Why not a Gen 3 conversion?

$$$$, or more accurately, lack of them.
Also, it is to be daily driver, so while I am chasing performance, economy is an issue, especially when we pay nearly $1.50 a litre.

the ecotec has a 1" shorter deck height then the 3800 buick block, so it might be a little narrower but not by much, maybe 1/2"

the manifold is a bit over an inch narrower due to the shorter deck height.

G'day

Thanks for the info.

After extensive researching, I have decided that to put an Ecotec motor with a manual gearbox into a CFL van, the best way to go is to get a Motor and Getrag 5 speed with the appropriate computer and harness.

So that is what I have just bought, a low mileage VT setup. Lots of $$$, but probably cheaper in the long run.
I pick it up tomorrow.
Now to sell all the bits that I accumulated, a complete VS sedan, a complete VN sedan, Supra conversion kit, etc, etc, located at Dubbo NSW

I will make my own sump, engine mounts and gear box mount, etc

Regards
Chris
