Hey guys..

Just asking this for a friend because he isn't sure and we can't get a straight answer.. which would yield better performance (even if it's slight), would it be 2x 512MB 667's running in dual channel or 1x 1024MB 667 on its own? The motherboard has four slots so that's not a problem, he's aiming for 2GB in the end but thats a long way away from now and was just wondering (the motherboard supports 2 dual channel pairs) and the CPU is dual core.

He just wanted to know despite the sticks only being 512MB would there be any other disadvantages as well, or would performance be about the same?

Thanks!

PS, we know they need to be matched.

Personally, I'd go 2x 512mb's. From my experience, running the RAM sticks in pairs would give slightly better performance, although it wont be a huge difference. That said, there's nothing wrong with having the single 1GB.

The twin 512's running dual channel would be faster... well there would be greater bandwidth. Its not as if there is a bandwidth difference between the two setups in terms of initial bandwidth. There the same RAM except the twins is utalising the onboard dual channel feature meaning a faster setup. If you friend is only after 2gb then there is no point in getting the single gig stick.

Witht that in mind tho... why not save up and get the DDR2 800??

aZk.

Go with whatever is cheaper. it's not gonna make a huge difference either way really.

Tell him to aim for 4GB.
