check my ride (link at bottom of post) on how to set up a pod filter properly (with pics). however, no matter whether you have a POD or panel filter, you need a CAI to get good gains

. Pod filters do allow more air to be sucked in so they suite a S/C or turbo setup with a intercooler (where the air temp doesnt matter, you want the least resistance).

i think this statement is also misleading. yes on a charged/turbo'd car you want a pod to increase potenial airflow, NO you don't want to suck hot air, especially seeing as the charger and more so the turbo is going to heat the air, yes the intercooler will drop the intake charge but i'd rather start with cold air so it doesn't get as hot through the turbo/charger and then through the intercooler results in a cooler intake charge resulting in more power.

also, you always want the least resistance intake you can have, more so on a n/a car that doesn't have a turbo to force feed the air into the engine

Go the CAI. Cheap mod, easy to install and not sucking in cold air. Performance is minimal and fuel saving little, but much better then the jap crap pod setup!

Think there is some confusion here. The temp the motor is running at and the temp of the incoming air are two different things.
Ideally we want the air to be as cool as possible for maximum mass of air per volume for increased power and the motor as hot as possible for thermodynamic efficiency of the combustion process. However, our motors are limited to <100C otherwise things start to melt/distort. Hotter intake air decreases thermodynamic efficiency as well.
