This has become way out of what I could achieve. the car is 2006 but very average body condition probably below average. The interior is about the same. How much is it worth fixed up and the cost to fix it up i guess $2500 - $3000 say $1000 to fix it. I will look for a Quote from a workshop tomorrow.

You need to take it to a reputable transmission workshop, not a mechanical workshop

What area are you in?

In that case, how is the Gold Coast rust, how many kms has it done, how is the engine, how much of a money pit can it develop into ?

Totally agree. Not the realm of a mechanic/workshop. Needs a reputable trans shop to get an eye over it.

Second hand trans is going to be the cheaper solution. New radiator. Clean the cooling system. Clean trans cooler lines.

That can be done with the help of some friends.

Thank you all for you help, the cost of repair through a mechanical workshop or trans specialist is up to $3000 its become over what the car is worth. my conclusion is a second hand transmission either new or second hand radiator. The next problem is am I up to being able to do it, I'm yet to decide. is the body and interior of the car in good enough condition to spend all the time and money? the more I look at it the less I think of it being worth it. even though I have an emotional attachment to this car because I've been driving it for the past 7 years and its been an awesome car My final decision is , I can afford to go and buy another car which seems the more logical way to go, scrap the past and have a new start is what I going to do. Thank you all for your help, it became quite a process to work through this issue

All cars are expendable, buy a new car, sell the old one for parts, or metal recycler

Or, if you really like your model, buy a similar one, and use yours for any doner parts if required

Save your emotional attachments for your friends and family

I,m your age and while I have no problem doing most things around or under the car I may draw the line at a gearbox swap, maybe ?? but of course I never say never and I have been doing stupid things all my life.
I am also fortunate to have a number of these cars in a wreckers at Nambour so parts are readily available and the owner is also a mobile mechanic

I am a tad older, and my limit of capability and proficiency is now oil changes and tyre rotation.
Sort of lost enthusiasm for lying under a car in the dirt, on my own, many years ago doing a Kingswood clutch plate change.

I want a hoist, but basically so I can detail under the car without putting it up on stands and dragging my arse around under it
