"Can you explain this to me. Unless something stretches the piston can not go up the bore any more to grap the lip so a few broken rings will be the least of his issues if it did happen."

The more an engine is revved, the more things stretch because of the extra loads exerted on them. The conrods will stretch and compress slightly as they fly up and down, also standard conrod bolts are a well known one, and the engine will spin a bearing once they stretch too far and the bearings running clearance becomes to great.

only 6100? the tacho goes to 7,000 and change the rpm cutoff time so it bounces off it quicker, maybe richen it up so it blows flames as well.

although the rev limit will be set up 6000rpm the car will want to shift at around 5400-5500rpm unless there is something wrong with it or you lock it in gear (in which case your an idiot and deserve to blow up your car)

As its been said, there is no point as it does not make power at those rpm.

quick look through a few vn memcals the stock rev limit.

5401.32 Hi (cuts fuel at this rpm)
5313.73 Low (starts fuel when it drops back to this rpm)

unless you do some work to the engine and freshen it up (possible balance it aswell), revving an 89 series 1 v6 to 6000 rpm will probably end badly, for the s&g's i tried this in my 88 v6 with 231,000 km's on the clock, it sounds like i'm gonna have to jump out and start catching pistons and other bits of engine at about 6k... or duck for cover.....

The standard camshaft in a VN V6 makes its peak power output of 125 kw @ 4800 rpm. It makes its peak torque output of 292Nm @ 3200 rpm. Reving it past these points,(depending on what you are doing) is a waste of time, as the torque and power curves drop off considerably after this point. If you want to change whereabouts in the rev range the peak power and torque figures occur at , you will need to talk to a camshaft specialist and get a cam ground up to suit your needs..
