Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time poster!

On the market for either 2016/17 Redline or R8 Black.

Price wise - its about $7,000 difference, and I'm leaning toward the HSV.

I was given a price of approx $57K for Redline and about $64K for R8 Black.

What do you guys think?

64K for an R8 Black? Is this a new car? If so can you let me know where so I can buy it out from under you.

That price will apply to a MY16 Redline if you can find one that's available. A MY17 Redline will be more like $63k.
$64k is a great price for a R8 Black, they start at $65,500 on carsales.
When you consider the R8 Black is a Redline with a couple of great additions like the driver dial, I think it's a no brainer vs a MY17 Redline.
The MY16 Redline is more comparable and the question becomes whether you want the extra stuff and the exclusivity for the additional $7k. I personally don't think the R8 Black is worth that much extra and I feel bad for the people who paid what it was being sold for originally.

Isn't the R8 340kW as opposed to 304kW with Redline?
Cosmetically both look different to me, especially the back.

HSV GEN F2 SV Black
I had a VF1 SSV 6.0L. Was looking to upgrade to a Series II Redline. Ended up getting the SV Black. Has all the HSV gear with fabulous AP Racing brakes with grooved rotors and even bigger 367mm brakes front and back.

My opinion is that the SV Black easily justifies the $7k (20inch x 9.5 rims in the rear (9inch in Redline), 255 rubber up front over all diameter is 8mm taller), performance orientated suspension and 10mm lower all round. Inside you get a Calais based interior which means cloth trimmed A pillar and B pillar and foot well lights as well as a dvd/cd player which is absent in the redline.

The bi-modal intake, extractors and HSV exhaust is a nice addition and properly loud when your up on it. If you are planning to modify and tune I would say the SV Black is not your car. However, if your planning to keep it stock its great value as you get the handy 340kw tune LS3.

Downside to the Redline, you don't get the sunroof standard. But for me I am not a sunroof fan so it was no big deal.

I'm also not interested in the sunroof (maybe because I'm bold, LOL) ..

Is the bi-modal exhaust system the same in both or maybe HSV is different?

I thought a 340Kw LS3 from the HSV Black can be easily tuned up to, say, 370kW or so?!?

Holden VF ssv ute manual
I would put my money on the r8. Hard to say no to a well priced hsv.
And you could boost it up to 370 with a few simple mods

Plus I could be wrong but don't the hsv runs a slightly shorter diff which would make it feel much more punchy around town

The diff ratios for the LS3 in the VF2 are 3.7 for the manual and 3.27 for the auto.

The LS3 HSV’s are also 3.7 for the manual and 3.27 for the autos.

The LSA HSV’s are 3.73 for manuals and 3.23 for autos.

The 6.0 Litre V8 in the VF has taller ratios at 3.45 for the manual and 2.92 for the auto which is also the same for the VE 6.0 Litre equipped cars.

The 6.0 Litre LS2 V8 in the E Series HSV’s were shorter than the 6.0 litre VE’s with a 3.7 for the manual and a 3.27 for the auto being the same ratio as used in the later LS3's.
