Saw this used by Diagnose Dan. A gun diagnostic guru. What a great little gadget. He said even though they are cheap, they are a useful tool for quickly confirming if a relay is good.

So I found one and bought one.

$30-ish.

Connect to the battery and away you go.

This was the video. Go to exactly 12mins to see it used. Of course this video got my interest because of the similarities to the VZ no crank. No start condition that has been occurring the last few years.

be careful
type a and type b are wired differently internally
it does say it will check pin configuration
but keep it in mind

I’m always a little wary of relays that show signs of over heating. So, that relay in your third photo (Tyco brand) would probably go in the bin regardless of whether or not that tester says its okay or not.
