Hi guys
I can't seem to get a straight answer from HSV on this, and tried searching online without luck. I'm looking at buying a VF Maloo however I don't want the sailplane & hardlid, instead need a tonneau.

So my question is, can the sailplane etc be removed and a different one with soft tonneau be installed? And if so how tricky is it? It looks to me like the SS and base MY14 Maloo have the same sailplane (?????), with soft tonneau. Hoping these would be a straight bolt up.

Obviously if the switch happens I'd need to get it painted to match.

Appreciate any comments guys, just getting the runaround here.

Cheers
Dave

Non R8 Maloo's came standard with SS sailplane and tonneau cover, R8's came with the Maloo sailplane and hard lid.
I don't think that they made any more base models after they adopted the LSA.

You might want to look for a series 1 Gen F non R8 Maloo....

Thanks mate for clarification that the sailplane is off the SS.

I'll likely be buying new and want an R8. So can I remove the R8 sailplane and put on the SS one, ie is it an easy bolt-up? And can the soft tonneau be fitted too?

I've never tried to replace a sailplane, but it should be doable.

Once the sailplane is replaced, the standard tonneau should fit.

I've had my sailplanes off on a couple of Utes, just be very careful not to break any clips.

As you're already said it is doable.

I looked into it about 5 years back as I use my Ute to take the dog to the beach and a hard lid is of no use.

The dealer was even happy to swap the HSV parts over for SSV parts for me pre-delivery and I even looked into having something made to protect the hard lid while I stored it.

For memory the sailplane also came already painted or at least that was the case 5 years ago.
