I have a VY and it has a metal support that sits under the radiator and is spot welded to the chassis rail. I have managed to bend mine and i cant unbend it. I can get the part off holmart.
I was wondering whether i could just rivet the new one on? would it be as strong as a spot weld?

Ahhhhhahahahah

Very helpful, Ari. I think he's looking for a bit more.......

OP

No. If the bar you are talking about is the square one about 25mm in diameter, it isn't just spot welded, it's seam welded into place and forms a tie between the two chassis rails. It must be welded back in, or the structural integrity of the front sub-frame assembly will be severely weakened. Get the welding done by someone who can do a professional job.

If there is another cross-member in front of that one beneath the radiator, (think there is, can't remember), even though it is spot welded, it must be welded back in. Rivets will not provide the necessary rigidity.

Would a rivet be as strong as a spot weld...sigh.
