Well this is the plan... My VS has a shot Live axle diff, non ABS, but the wheel bearings are near new. My wifes VR which has ABS & a Live Axle has shot wheel bearings. So plan is (if it will work) put a whole new unit into my VS, remove axles from my old diff & fit to the VR, obviously I would have to remove the ABS rings from the VR's old axles & fit to the replacement VS ones, but other than that I would think it would be a straight swap?
Any Hints for an easier Diff swap welcomed too. :)

Make sure to remove and reinstall the wheel bearing cups from the old VS axle into the VR axle as bearing sets are a matching pair of underwear.

Yes will do that K-BAGZ,
I am a little concerned the old cup may have spun in the housing of the VR, any way to make the replacement a tight fit if this is the case?

You could make a few pin punch marks on the outside of the cup to tighten it up if you wish.

NO NO NO you make the punch marks to the inside of the diff housing where the bearing cup sits or on the axle. If you try to do it to the bearing or cup it will crack, split or break!

That's true, yes. But not the end of the world.

A better option that I didn't think of then is to use a bearing retaining compound or loctite to hold the bearing cup in place.

You can't use non ABS axles in an ABS diff, as the axles are different. ABS axles have a raised section that the ABS ring sits on to line up with the sensor, non ABS axles don't have it. There is nothing there for the ring to sit on.

Oh bugga, I had wondered if that was the case Not_AN_ABBA_FAN.
Oh well I'll keep them for spares for my own then.

Thanks for the replys guys, I got the replacement diff into My VS over the weekend with the assistance of a friend. Found the upper trailing arm bushes were shot, Bumpstops almost non exsistant, & rear brake disks shot, so I replaced the lot (including new pads). It is driving much smoother now. :beer chug:

At least it was a good outcome.
