Hey Guys,

As the title says it, I unfortunately found a fair amount of rust in the chassis rails (Few rust holes, varying in size) I'm so disappointed in myself for not noticing this until now.
I don't know what i can do? Its a immaculate original VL Calais with matching numbers, i don't know if its legal to get this fixed. definitely illegal to have it on the road and I'm NOT going to sell this to anyone with this issue.
Its my pride and joy and just kills me to see this.

depending how significant it is.
can you weld in plate steel and then blackjack..

i know heat from welding "weakens" steel as such from heat dissipation

Then it wouldn't have matching numbers.

It's possible to fix anything. The only question is whether it is worth doing so or not. If it's bad enough, engine out, K-frame and front suspension off and weld in new 'rails. Probably not economic to do so unless DIY and some sentimental value in the car.

My only options right now is to get it proffessionally fixed, i wouldnt DIY it Or sell to someone who knows that the rust is there. Nah no sentimental value.

(hopefully these images go up, if not ill try again)

Ahhhh yes now i look at it i can kind of see a dodgie has been done.
Thats unfortunate! Wish i could of seen that before i bought it
Ive shown the picture to a few people and straight away they say Coastal Car
Roughly 1500-3000 to fix (depends on how much work i want to do) e.g removing the motor etc.

If the rails are that bad, and it has been disguised, I would be very suspicious of what the rest of the body is like. It would be really bad to spend a couple of thousand to fix that and find damage to a similar extent elsewhere.

Maybe re-shelling is the way forward. Still a lot of work though and you lose that chassis number.
