hi my 87 berlina the problem, its a good car and im willing to restore it, but has a hudge hole in the boot, rust everywhere it seeps through!!, the whole bottom has to be replaced!!, i ve gone to several pannel beaters but all have said its either not in there specialisation or its just a waste of cash. If anyone knows a decent pannel beater in the western subs, that specialises in major rust can you please reply and give me some info? it would be much apreciated.

hey guys...
to get the rust removed from under the windscreen is a costy job...in sydney its 160 to get the windscreen removed and then 500 bucks and the rust will be removed and fixed..a panel beater or smash repairer will be able to do it...my mum's vl was really bad and it cost the 700 bucks...mine is just little specks..they say it wont be as much but they still gotta pop the screen to fix the rust...big job for a little speck
cheers

and in 90% of times the windscreen will break when the pull it out. just how it happens unfortunately. the place that does the windscreens probably only charges that much in case they do break it, new ones are only a bit more (around $200) so unless your madly in love with the old screen throw a few extra dollars and get a newie.

front and back windows are usually where the rust is, back window should be able to be popped out. the front one is sealed in thats why its harder.

Yeah, I've had the rust removed once from around the front and back windows already but it's back with a vengeance! I've been looking around in the Eastern/South-Eastern suburbs of Melbourne for a reliable panel beater to do the job. There are fuse box covers for sale on eBay VLACS. Can't remember how much they were charging - haven't looked for a couple of days. Do a search in car parts and type in 'VL' - should come up after a bit.

Rusty Vl

Hey Fellas
Im from Perth, my VL Executive has started to bubble around the windshield also, a very common problem with all VL's. The lining around the boot also seems a popular area for rust to form. I have had a few quotes, Im NOR, I have been to Rust specialists, want around $1000 (Windshield rust) but will Guarantee there work for at least 10 years. Panel beaters have given me quotes of around $800, both say its common for the windshield to break when being removed. I'm passonate about my VL so will get it done when I find the time. I also have very small specs of rust which can be scraped off and bogged quite easily if you have the right equipment.
For the guys who are in Perth, the Quokka is a god for spares parts, there is always smashed up VL's with plenty of good panels and interior parts. Thats how I keep my car in tip top condition
