I have the 120000km service due on my vy 3.8 and was wondering if you guys think handing over my cash is a waste cause they do so little. but also i have no mechanical knowledge to inspect other parts if i do the minor service myself so im in two minds what do you guys think?

pick up a haynes or gregories manual, do what you think you can and get a mech to do the tough bits only

I'm just worried about the checking (belts, transmission, cv joints etc)

What are some decent service places in perth to trust my vehicle with? Cheers.

It really isn't that hard. Pretty much everything that is recommended you check, just have a look for any cracks or wear and tear. Do this yourself, if it is all good then don't worry about it, but if for example you look at the boots and they have cracks in them take it to a mechanic. I'm not really sure of what a 120k service involves for your car, but have a look in the service/warranty book, it will tell you everything that should be carried out.
