2004 VY 5.7 LS1
Hi, i just picked up a 2004/5 LS1 from a Adventra VY 2005
It will be going in a 1980 Corvette. What kind of mods are usually done bar getting 799 or 243 heads which is out of the budget..

Im after a 4l60e and HSV manifolds btw

Thanks

Could throw a performance cam in it while the engine is out of the car also shave heads like you said... make sure to use a new timing chain set and replace the lifters, gaskets etc while heads are off also u will need valve springs to match the cam

Already ordered the following
WS6 store hot cam 218/227 @ 50 .600/.600 LSA 112+2
PAC 1219x springs
Straub LS Rocker Trunion kit
GM LS7 lifters
GM LS2 lifter tray
Ported LS2 oil pump
LS2 timing chain
Cam gasket set
GM MLS head gaskets and new GM Headbolts
Rear main seal and barbell

Engine has done 120k

Worth shaving heads? what is the typical cost for this? what kind of HP does it result in.

I had a set of heads shaved once cost about $120? From memory as fo overall horsepower gains I don't know maybe someone more knowledgeable will chime in, just remember you may need shorter pushrods if you shave your heads because the rocker geometry will be out a bit

Generally worth increasing compression but level of performance increase depends on cam and fuel (dynamic compression). What are the cam specs @ 0.006"?
Being on the coast you have cheap ethanol at Worongary, Arundel, South Coomera, which means you can get a mighty torque plus VE boost with high dynamic with a fraction of ethanol in the tank.
Milling heads 0.030" is about $150.
Raising CR is more about raising BMEP of existing displacement (torque production), then multiplied by RPM = HP. Where and when depends on cam.
