How much shorter? VK or VL diff are narrower than VN. the Holden GRP A Commodore used a VL diff with 3.45 gears under the rear to get wider wheels under it.

I think you will find VK and earlier had Salisbury diffs V8s at least.

You want vl so you can fit a vn centre for 28 spline axles .there isn' a lot in it width wise around 10mm each side if you disc brake it

Later VK went the BW diffs and they all use the same 0575 gear sets. The only problem is the VK BW diffs use 25 spline centres so you will need a later model 28 spline Centre and shorten axles to suit or use a VL BW 28 spline diff if you can find one.

What's the reason for wanting a narrower dif? I know a bloke in Adelaide who cuts down 9inchs. I assume you could have yours done.

Hitting on one side or both? Considered rolling the guards?

Try different rims with a different offset or try slightly narrower rubber on the current rims.

Yeah, the easiest way is offset rims, takes a lot off strain of the axles as well.
If you can't get them stock you should be able to have them made.
