Have you got sneaky teenage kids that maybe took it for a joy ride?
You cant syphon a VE via the filler neck, it has a device in the line.
Also, I thought VE fuel flaps just opened by pushing on them, they click open.

Only when the car is unlocked. If the car is locked, the flap has to be forced open.

maby your fuel senders are getting worn out and telling u lies, fuel gauges will either read higher or lower depending on ohms when they start to play up...

Re-opening this thread - I had some pricks siphon my tank on a 09 VE and they tore out the metal flap thingy inside (which I'm now trying to source a replacement). So either the anti-siphon thing is not good enough or it doesnt have one at all, cause these blokes knew that they could get fuel from my 09 and they succeded...

why go thru the cap when a plastic tank is so easy to puncture and drain anyway ????? easy enough to remove from most tanks with right tools and know how do this often when drivers put in the wrong fuel ( as part of my daily job ) .
