Greetings to all you fortunate VE pilots....

Has anyone yet found out how to remove the stereo unit?? Yes, I know the climate control is integrated, and I shouldn't be going with aftermarket for various reasons........

That's not the intention - I'd like to be able to remove the sound system unit, and then put it back. A kind volunteer came to see me in his gorgeous new Calais recently, and after a lot of grunting and swearing we managed to get a load of trim panels removed and not much else. We certainly couldn't get the head unit to budge. Anyone out there know the secret??

Doctor Bob, are you on the case?? ;)

Thanks guys. Cheerz!

mcgyver wouldnt use a hammer, chisel, piece of string and a a straw... he would use chewing gum, a bottle cap, a tooth pick, 2 small lengths of wire and a 9 volt battery

step 1: chew gum
step 2: place gum in bottle cap
step 3: put tooth pick in gum
step 4: hook wires upto battery
step 5: put wires into gum creating a spark which makes the toothpick move like mini jack hammer
step 6: use mini jack hammer to hack dash apart

I would have thought that the intention was pretty clear, knowing what Phreddy does for a living... remove head unit, pull it apart, see how it works and what can be modified, take a bunch of notes and photos, and put it back how he found it.
