Geez, a bit agricultural with his technique and tool selection.
Welcome to Just Commodores, a site specifically designed for all people who share the same passion as yourself.
Found a good 2nd hand shaft @ Upullit for $46 , with a good uni & **** centre bearing which I already hv, a replacement new one, all the good center bearing rubber ones were gone, of course, but still a cheapYou can't replace the uni-joints from VX series 2 onwards, you have to replace the whole shaft. Hunt for a good SH one. The alternative would be to find a VT diff pinion flange and fit that so you can fit the VT shaft as the rubber coupling on the diff is the difference between the VT-VX and VX2-VY.
Ah ha, was alarmed when I saw the needle bearings fall out,Geez, a bit agricultural with his technique and tool selection.
Can anyone confirm if this is actually the case. I have been told that all of VX have staked centre uni's not just the series 2. i don't have a genuine GMH service manual to checkYou can't replace the uni-joints from VX series 2 onwards, you have to replace the whole shaft. I ended up buying a brand new one from Hardie spicer imported from the US without staked uni's.I'm talking for Vz commodore here but for a moment imagine there is no more "good second hand" tailshafts to get, we've gotta use them all up eventually, I know there really is still some but we're imagining here.
What then?
Is there a newly made, without the staked uni tailshaft, direct replacement made by someone or a real method for conversion yet? Not just a guy in a garage fiddling method.
I replaced mine about 5ys ago but now the "new" is starting to go. So before I go get another refurbished one, is there a better alternative or because I still have the original laying about is there proven conversion or places that can service them cheaper than buying it as a whole refurbished which is around $600 atm?
