And also to add , we can run the slightly slanted starter motor with the solenoid to the side from the ls1's or we can run the ones like on the ve's where the solenoid is on top. Just make sure you check what connection you have too the solenoid from the car side as some have a push on connector while the others have the ring terminal . Doesnt really matter thou , as you can just cut and re crimp what one you need , But for times sake its so much easier with the right one from the get go.

Also be prepared for lots of swearing trying to get the starter out lol

Have had the same issue before with heat related starting woes. Was the starter, heating up and causing a resistance issue i presume.

Recrimping on car can be a pain in the arse, and if you've got any form of oil leak, prepare to get nice and dirty.

im lost now, my compliance plate is stamped L98. i had sent an email to the ebay mob and then decided to call them. over the phone the guy said yep that one is the one for it.

now i received an email from them saying L98 is a different starter motor and is $405.

is there a difference between L76 and L98 start motors?

Turn the key to on ( 1 click from the one you normaly do)
pop the hood and bridge the start relay from memory pin 87 and 30 with a small length of wire and see if the car will start first shot. if it takes a few shots or you hear the starter half clicking , the starter is fudged

Generic commodore pic taken from the net , but yeah the starter relay will be the one in the first slot , pull the sucker out , turn the key to ON , and bridge out a wire from 87 and 30 where I marked with green .
