Stiff Handbrake

Hi, I have done lots of searching on this but can't find what I want to ask.

VE Omega 2008. Only had this car for about 1 month
Handbrake had to be pulled Hard all the way up or it wouldn't work and when you try to release it you have to pull up REALLY hard to release the button.
Ok so I tightened up the cable some ( about 7 turns ) Now the handbrake works at about 7 clicks but you can feel the cable is quite tight. My wife is complaining that she is struggling to use it.

Are the VE's known for having shitty hand brakes??
I am hoping I can get the handbrake working and be light to use.

I noticed the handbrake was biting less when I changed my rotors. I must have forgotten to clean the inside and the hand brake shoes are slipping a bit now. It got better with time so I didn't bother taking the rotors off to properly clean them but that might be something you want to check.
