When dropping a ls2 into a car that has a ls1, what parts do I need to make it work, other then the motor itself.

if its a 24 tooth reluctor x2 cam gear ls2 then you'll only need injector adapters, map extention , cam sensor extention, knock sensors ( either an adapter to use ls2 ones or use ls1 on side of block, which requires drilling out to 10mm ).

use all the ls1 gear from the old motor, balancer, waterpump etc and a tune

Like Freedon was alluding to is that there are 2 different LS2's.
The one fitted to VZ's is similar to the LS1 then do as Freedon has said.
But if the engine is out of a VE or later crate engine it will have a 58tooth reluctor on the crank and require either a change of reluctor wheel or a conversion box.
