Hi Guys,
Has anyone fitted a oil cooler to their T5 manual gearbox??
If so would you have used a thermostat to prevent over cooling the oil??

I am future proofing my 304 highway cruiser from over heating

Stick a gauge in it and see what temperatures it gets to, its highly unlikely it will get hot enough to need a cooler.

To fit an oil cooler you would also need to fit a pump to circulate the fluid.

What are you trying to prevent from overheating?

If it's engine temps you are worried about you are better of fitting an engine oil cooler using a sandwich plate that fits between the oil pump and oil filter that has a thermostat so only opens when the engine oil gets up to a set temp.

Thanks for the advice
I have noticed that doing highway speeds of 130-150 kph that the engine temp rises and i have to drop down to 110 kph(open speed limit on some NT highways). I have a complete oil cooler, filter relocation, thermal fan, hi flow oil pump and thermostat package to install on my 5ltr. I was also wanting to cool the gearbox, i have a spare cooler to use and was not sure how the oil was pumped around the T5. Is there a particular pump for this as it would have to deal with high temps.

How old is the radiator, have you tried flushing the cooling system?

I wouldn't bother with the high flow oil pump unless you have oil pressure issues.

Some race classes use a transmission cooler on the T5 boxes, I know the NZ Six Shooter series does. might pay to check with some of these people to see how they do it.

Thanks for the lead.
I wanted to go the high flow oil pump as the 304 does have a vortech blower plus all the soon to be added cooling parts.

Cruising, even at those speeds won't generate enough heat to make the oil break down. Maybe just the oil slightly more regularly. Send the oil off for analysis to see if it's breaking down.
