The first VE Commodore was built in Japan last week.

The Japanese Commodore was not a complete car, but a complete set of body panels used for the final sign-off of the tooling "jigs" and "dies" to be used to stamp the panels for the VE.

It was put together as a full-scale trial.

Mooney said the tooling was signed-off for shipping to Australia and installation into the company's giant panel presses.

"We're pretty much on time. The reality is that we're getting ready to ship dies," he said.

The new VE Commodore will use the Alloytec V6 engine that already has been installed into the latest VZ Commodore.

Ford has an all-new Falcon coming in 2006 when Toyota is expected to renew its Camry.

Nah, its only a very early prototype, and even so, its not really a car, it probably has no interior and no drive train. Its just a bunch of panels that have been bolted together.

If you read the thread properly it says that the "jigs" and dies" are coming form japan and are being shipped to oz. Then holden will install these into its current facility. Of course they are buliding it here...!!!!

Dye Machines

Holdens will use the japs for the jigs 2 press the panels and dye machines 2 make the models. There machines are Holdens design and build for there style like bonnet, boot , doors etc.. Most gmh Dye and press machines are ideas from overseas. I Built the cv8 & vy for GMH so i know where some of the machines come from and how they work. Designs maybe from overseas but holdens will build em here in SA and Vic im sure.
