Rip Off Mechanics, I have had a gutfull of them, and there seems to be more and more every day.

The Story.
Neighbours just trying to get by in life but on the bones of their arse at the moment, take their 03 Ford Escape with 180,000k's on clock to the Servo Mechanic they have been dealing with for years because the car is missing and banging into gear.

Get it back next day and pay $800.
Drive up hill from Servo and car is still missing so back to Servo where Mechanic claims to not be able to hear missing (must be a deaf plick) however, gives a quote for another $1200 to fix problem ??.

Neighbour cannot afford any more outlays so the car sits in carport for 3 weeks until she mentions to me the problem and asks who they should take the car to.

I (retired Plumber/Builder) start car and yes, it is missing on idle as well as under rev/load.
I diagnose possible Injector/coil/spark plugs, but lucky for me there is a young Mechanic in street who agrees to have a look, and after playing for an hour thinking coil , he diagnoses spark plug/s.

Now, the reason for this rant.
What did she get for the $800 she paid out to the Servo Mechanic. A new Cat Convertor.

I hear you mate, My old car went to a "trans specialist" for a whiney noise in the trans, get a call to tell me the trans is cooked and I need a new one.
I didn't believe him so in I went, car on hoist, parts laid out neatly on table all of which are buggered, also buggered is me as I can't call bullshit as he could roll the car into the street and give me parts and say #### off, in retrospect I should have taken that option....
Got charged $1500 for a rebuild.. took it back twice as it was slamming into gear (to the point the car lost traction on 1st to 2nd), fumes coming into the cabin & THE NOISE WAS STILL THERE!.

After getting nowhere with him I went to another person, this bloke since I was screwed around let me hang around, in front of me he pulls the trans off and then goes "Well, there's your first problem" it had a VR box put onto my VS model car, was missing parts it required.
I was charged by the new place $2200 to get a new trans in, that was including buying my VR box from me for $800 for the trouble I had.

Car drove great for 2 months until some prick ran into the side of it and wrote it off.....
Also what was causing the whiny noise?.. the Torque Converter....

That Harvey Norman think it is completely normal for it to take more than a week to pack an online order. Over a week and not even shipped yet!

This is why these idiots are losing business to online companies, shocking service.

when people say they have 1 question to ask you
then it turns into a 2 hour tirade of questions and non stop talk from there side.
and when you are giving basic answers of yes/no/maybe they get upset with you.

clearly I don't want to talk about it.
or don't give a stuff about what they have to say for the other 60 minutes of one sided conversation because it will be said again every day of the week for the next month.

*this is after having a massive day of travelling and only wanting to sit down for a few minutes to relax after said travelling
