that tracks.

although I am glad to be at less risk of flooding, I am worried about bushfire risks in my new location  el nino and la nina are not friendly on either end.

You're worried about bushfires and you were talking about flame throwers to get rid of the ants.... :p

Sorry, couldn't resist.....Shall escort myself out, rather that you finding some nasty way to remove me...:)

1/2 of Australia's eftpos terminals are currently down because Optus.

I still won't carry cash, haven't owned a wallet for almost 10 years, don't ever plan to again, I leave the house with my phone and keys and thats it.

But watch now after this people protesting and ranting "CASH WILL ALWAYS BE KING" like it's 1973 in an attempt to keep it relevant.

Working in the payments industry I can tell you it's just as easy for a business to not be able to take your cash too......cash drawers in point of sale terminals have limited life spans, the solenoids often fail and jam the drawers closed.....I spent many years as a field tech going into businesses and busting open the cash drawers so the stores could get the cash back out.

I've seen lots of businesses have to turn cash customers away because they can't access their cash.

**** happens whether it's digital or physical currency....we don't live in a perfect world
So we should go back to these:)

Too many people take phone weather reports as gospel. I try to tell them how inaccurate they are at least half the time. Yet when I mention the weather report they still seem to think what it says on their phone is right..... I give up.
Yes. I’m not aware of any phone manufacturers using local BoM forecasts in their native apps. They use GFS (Global Forecasting System) produced forecasts and GFS is a poor performer in our local region.

Always install the BoM app.

For weather I use four or five separate apps to get the data I need in formats that is relative to my work.
• Willy Weather (good temp graphs. Uses BoM data)
• Windy (a better radar rendering than BoM, detailed storm forecasts and locally based rainfall forecasts that can be interpreted quickly)
• BoM app. Quick forecast glance.
• DAFWA weather/DPIRD weather (WA only) for mapped rainfall, soil moisture, soil temp and temp data from both their stations and BoM stations. (BoM also use their data)
• My Lightning Tracker so I can keep an eye on things and not get struck (hopefully)

Yep, there is certainly truth in that. Adding up was another issue.

I recall (in my younger days) going to a fish and chip shop and ordering an assortment of snack items (potato cakes, scallops, dim sims, fish, chips, etc.). While it was being cooked, and because i was bored, I mentally worked out the total. When my order was ready the fellow behind the counter worked out the total with pen and paper and announced the total. ”Wrong” I said. He worked it out again and said, yep he found his mistake, and he announced the new total. “Wrong” I said again. He redid the calculation again and - third time lucky - managed to come up with the correct total. The girl assisting behind the counter was smiling watching this whole transaction.

The fellow behind the counter did seem a little cocky and was probably working hard at impressing the girl assisting behind the counter. Mind you, I too was probably being a bit of a bastard back then by challenging his mathematics. I’m a little bit more mellow these days. :)
