Hi Guys,
I’ve blown my T56 in my VZ LS1 and they are getting pretty hard to find, just wondering if a TR6060 would be a straight swap in, I know you need a shifter relocation kit but that’s easy enough, more concerned about it mating up to the motor? And possibly tail shaft issues?

You can still buy gears, bearings and cases for the T56 new. Malwood is the tremec supplier.

Will bolt up....can get shifters like Malex item if g/box out of ve or later.

Was first put in 6litre vz hsv iirc so tailshaft can be made to work if not already same.

Speed sensor is answer totally unsure of as thought it was external vss & later vz 6l & ve ran different ecu

Dunno about the T56 but I got a quote on a rebuilt TR-6060 for my VE and was quoted around $3800 from Mal Wood (swap over). The brand new TR-6060 boxes are very expensive so I’ll definitely go with a swap over from Mal Wood when the time comes.

Tremec still make T5 and T5 TKO. My T56 was built by malwood to be as strong as a TKO.
Tremec also sell 2000hp boxes with both the T56 shifter or the 6060 shifter.

Mal Wood seems to be quite reasonably priced on rebuild for the TR-6060. I rang around a few manual gearbox rebuilders here and they wanted around $5500 to do the same job with fitting. Seeing as fitment should only be around $500 bucks they were $1200 bucks more expensive than Mal Wood on the rebuild.

Too many
VT-VZ T56s and TR6060's (09 VE onwards) will bolt up to the motor the same, but will be a change in shifter or entire rear housing as well as a tailshaft as the TR6060 doesn't run a slip yoke. with the priced of used everything these days, I'd just look at getting it rebuilt. Then you know its right and hasn't got however many ks already on it.
