Howdy,

The transmission in my Calais V is so noisy, I've never experienced it before in any other car I've owned.

Mine has done 70,000km.

When I first got the car, it would grind like crazy first thing on a cold morning reversing out of my drive. I took it for a trans service, the oil and filter was changed, the reverse/cold grinding disappeared which was a relief.

However, I still find generally it to be a noisy unit. When crawling in traffic it get's really bad. I've attached a dropbox link with a very short video that you can hear.

Does anybody have any clues as I'd love to get this rectified, i plan to go back to an Auto-trans guy, I would like to be armed with as much info as possible.

Thanks a lot!
Stefan.

i can't really makeout any noise from the video, im guessing this is auto, sure it's not a wheel bearing? Jack each wheel up and spin and see.

Hard to hear a noise but the transmission shouldnt make any noise.
Goto the transmission specialist and take them for a drive and see what they say.
It could be a bearing but they usually make more noise at higher speeds.

If it is a second hand vehicle the transmission might be flogged out by a burnout hero.

Who else can hear the noise other than the driver - front passenger?, rear passengers? How does the noise change with engine revolutions and car speed?

I couldn't hear any particular transmission noise on the video, sounded more like exhaust noise.

What brand tyres are you running and how many kms have they been used?

The noise is localised to underneath the selector and is there when the car is idling.

I've contacted my auto trans guy, hopefully I can take it in this week.

It appears to be there 100% of the time. It's noisier when under torque... going up hill, taking off etc.

Could be the pump, that's where my VN Tranny made noises when the pump was starting to fail,or transposed Torque Converter noise, anyway no matter what the cause its a job for a Tranny. specialist.
