hey everyone i have been reading some posts about holleys as i was thinking about putting a 350 holley on my 202 black motor, but i also remember reading somewhere , that if ur "black" motor is stock, a holley is a waste of time...if this is so any tips or ideas or even any past experiences/advice on tweaking a varajet carb. ?

I put a thermo fan on my VH, supposedly i have been told gives around extra 5hp, however its pretty hard to tell. It would have given it a bit though as it means the engine has to do less work spinning the fan.

Your cheapest option for more hp would be a sports air cleaner. The stockies are extremely restrictive. I read a sports cleaner will give you around 15-20 more hp. I don't know if this is an accurate number however it made a big difference on my car, especially at high RPM.

i've heard the opposite, those chrome top and bottom filter house things allow more hot air to be sucked into the engine. i got hold of a cold air intake off of a starfire 4 and dodgied it up to the 202. when i get my hornet scoop i'll be rearranging it all and getting one of of those "sports" ones and making a tray to channel codl air in.

Fair point. I must admit that it doesn't perform as well on a hot day than it does on a cold one - I blame on the hotter air under the bonnet (need a cold air intake). However on a hot day it still performed better than the stock air cleaner did on a cold day.

If you want to really find out if its worth the extra money for the sports cleaner then pull your air cleaner off and go for a drive- you'll get almost the same performance boost with a sports cleaner as you will with no cleaner. Just make sure you don't drive up a dusty road when you try it out as it could damage your engine.
