What size tyre is it? Is it the standard 235/45/17 or larger, maybe it has been rubbing on the front strut spring seat.

No rubbing, just tyre fail.

I work in a tyre shop and see this all the time. You'll be running too much negative camber and probably not enough toe in. low profile tyres tend to chew out like that when not correctly wheel aligned and not rotated often. Also that tyre doesn't have 30% tread, it's basically touching the wear bar lol.

+1 for camber wear. Once it starts wearing and nothing is done about it, it just gets worse and ends up like that.

Its common on Holden VT-VX for this to happen the alignment doesn't last long on (manufacturing problem) front goes //---\\ and rears go \\---// or the other way round cant recall , if you upgrade the rim size then the wheel alignment is going to change quicker then normal, i have stock 16s and it done it to mine :S. If you have lowered your car than it will go out of alignment even quicker. If you want to do it properly you have to get front struts and rear shocks and fit adjustable camber kit.

Just got an email back from Toyo.
Apparently a known fault which they have now rectified.
