My bad, I always thought it was mm's lol

I found out the hard way when I ordered 2 new tyres for the rear they where 245 and thought 265 would be worth a crack, didn't realise I had to change the 40 to 35 or what ever

Thanks for all the replies guys, turns out other rear tyre is also a 235, only my fronts are 245s. I got it put on today so i currently have 2 245 directional tyres on the front and 2 235s on the rear. Will this be ok?

Should be fine, but I'd swap front to back, it's just weird with smaller tyre on the rear!

Glad we could help

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as they are both 40 profiles, the rolling diameter would be the same, so the ABS and diff would be fine. The only issue would be that it is illegal for the front wheels to be wider tha the rear.

Edit, seems I am wrong, and the width does have some effect on the diameter.

The 40 and 35 profiles are percentages of the width. So 40% of 245mm is different to 40% of 235mm. The rolling diameters of 245 and 235 would be different if the profile is the same number.

That makes sense, I always thought the profile was a direct relation the the diameter of the rim.
