understanding VZ vin codes?

hey guys i'm looking at buying a VZ....awesome looking car...anyways its a V8, apparently ex cop car but i've also been told by the 'car salesman' thats its an SS but it doesnt have any obvious badging to clarify that. as i havent bought the car and was running the sums etc for insurance purposes and found it very hard to get past the 'is it an SS, SV8 or SS Z' question.
i was hoping someone could breakdown a VIN no. for me.
i don't have the vin for the car i'm looking at but an idea on the digits/meanings would be greatly appreciated.

From the VZ manual out of my SV6

Example Number 6G1ZK52F05L123456

First 3 - World Manufacturer ID (6=Oceania G=Australia 1=Holden)
Fourth - Model Series (Z = VZ)
Fifth - Luxury Level (K = Executive,SV6,SS. L = Berlina. X = Calais)
Sixth - Body Style Code (5 = 4 door sedan, 8 = Wagon)
Seventh - Restraint Code (1=Active Seatbelts,2=Active Seatbelts with driver and pass airbags,3=Active Seatbelts with driver airbag,4=Active Seatbelts with driver, pass and side airbags)
Eighth - Engine Code (B = Alloytec 175, F = GEN III V8, 7 = Alloytec 190)
Ninth - Security Check Code
Tenth - Model Year Code (5 = 2005, 6 = 2006 etc.)
Eleventh - Plant Build Code (L = Elizabeth)
Last 6 - Sequential Production Number

The SS code for most previous models will be after the model info on the build plate.

This one shows a standard VZ executive - 114 pack.
(I can't find the VZ SS code)

For a VN SS = A9F pack.

Will be interesting to see what model it is! Oh and does it have the service book? an ex cop car will have police listed as the original owner. I had this issue with mine because its an Acclaim but nothing different about it, no bash plates, no interior blackout light switch, no infividual map lights on the roof, and its running king springs suspension. Original owner is NSW Police, but its not a 914 or 114 pack or anything like that.

Its an odd ball of a cop car but it was, its pretty obvious where everything once bolted to the floor and the residue from the glue that held the lights in place on the dash ...

there is a few ways you can work it out.

does it say ss on the speedo cluster??
does it have the ss wing with the fins under it, ot the sv6/8 style with the black plastic on top??
does it have climate conrtol?
leather??
ss on the seats??
ss headlight and tail lights???
what style of wheels does it have???
does it have the indicator vents??

So if I have a wagon that has the letter 'N' for the engine what does that mean?
Is that a dedicated dual fuel engine?

Its interesting to note though that my car is an Aug '04 build and the VIN on the car puts it as an '05.

Just realised that the info that you need isn't the VIN. Its the Model Code which is on the data plate under the bonnet. See my Calais specs below.

To find out the specs as I have done for my VZ Calais, you need to go to Holden and they can punch into computer and get info...they may charge though. Or PM a holden tech
