Mate you have to put up the model number of the sub. Without it we don't know the impedance levels so there is no point in looking at an amp.

It's a single 4 ohm.

Basically it has one voice coil, and the base impedance level of that coil is 4 ohm's.
The amp you have listed puts out 200 rms @ 4 ohm. So yes it will drive the sub, just not quite to it's full potential.

The reason why Acarmody reccomended the other sub above, was because of it's dual voice coil arrangement. Multiple coils allow you to wire them together to drop the impedance levels. It's difficult to find a mono block amplifier that produces decent power levels at 4 ohm, because they are all designed to run lower than that. Using any mono amp at a 4 ohm load is just limiting the amps potential.

End of the day you have to spend more on the amp than what you did on the sub, and it still dosen't perform at it's best. You should have taken the advice on board that was given to you in the above posts.

Did you buy the sub new, can you refund it or swap it? You don't have to spend any more than your combined budget, just picking the right components that will work well together is all.

cheers for the info, however its unlikely i will be able to return the sub, i have seen two other amplifiers that have grater RMS at 4 ohms than the sub requires, so i have narrowed my choice down too these two amplifiers.

KENWOOD KAC-9105D SUBWOOFER AMPLIFIER CAR AUDIO AMP SUB (eBay item 170560512053 end time 31-Dec-10 18:56:39 AEDST) : Cars, Bikes, Boats

PIONEER GM-D8500M DIGITAL MONOBLOCK AMPLIFIER CAR 1200W (eBay item 180596181515 end time 07-Dec-10 18:55:35 AEDST) : Cars, Bikes, Boats

What differences between these two would make a better amp?

Yeah well they would be preferable, but only if you plan on later adding a second sub and wiring them down to a 2 ohm load.

Do you really want to spend 3 times what you paid for the sub on an amp to drive it?

If you must then the Kenwood represents better value for money. The DAC line up is older than Pioneers new digital line so you are getting more for your money as far as power for dollar is concerned....
