Interested to know the specs of the 2.85 (173) and the differences between the VB model and the other 173 motors used in the H series and the Torana.

Red or Blue?

Different head between the 2...Different carb/exhaust manifold between the 2....

Cranks are different between the 2

Not sure about piston/ring combos....

That's the differences I am aware of between the blue and reds....

Sumps and oil pick ups differ between the H series/Torana/Commodore motors

What are you after specifically?

'Red' motor VB, HZ and LX 173 engines are basically all the same except for the necessary things to fit them to
different model lines. Sump changes, carby cable/link connections, wiring harnesses will be different...

Much difference in power/torque?
I heard the VB model had less perhaps due to the increased pollution gear.

that was a myth ,most of the pollution gear didn't do anything at full throttle . EGR, efe ,vac advance lock outs while cold if manual, (no advance unless in top gear most used to get rid of that bit). As much as I didn't like vac pumps on blue motors when removed their wasn't any extra power.

So does anyone know what the actual power/torque numbers are? I've seen a range of numbers thrown around.

.. the ADRs for pollution didn't change from when HX came out until just before VC was released
