hi all just brought a 2007 wm statesman on duel fuel it has a blocked cat on the left hand side will it affect the computer if i smash the guts out as i need to drive the car its all i got and it keep bringing up a check engine light and shutting down the left bank was told by Holden that this was the issue and i just need to get her going again so i can get to work so i can buy new cats

Probably best you keep things like bypassing a Cat to yourself, there are many goody 2 shoes on this forum that will cry a river if they hear about that.

But as for your problem, i think there are oxygen sensors in the exhaust system so its more than likely the cat or the sensor causing the engine light (my VE V6 had a similar issue and they replaced sensors and one of the cats), I couldn't tell you if removing the cat or bypassing it will help the issue but worth a try if you are certain it is the cat that is blocked and causing it.

If holden do the work at least you can put it back on them if its the incorrect diagnosis, just incase its a faulty oxygen sensor etc.

smash it out if its blocked and can't afford a new one, actually probably best to smash them both...haha

While not a fan of smashing out cats.. I wouldn't smash out the left one only.. I'd want the same/similar back pressure on both sides.. So I'd smash both..

but anyways got a small injection of funds so am replacing them both with hiflows a set of pacemaker extractors and a XFORCE VAREX muffler open it up a little

That's a much better option than being a tool, good on you.
