1st - very expensive (unless it’s a genuine alternator)
2nd - could be battery issue

take it back for further analysis

Yes he was a mobile mechanic as my alternator **** it’s self while I was driving and I’m not really sure if I want to go back through him just because he does charge an arm and a leg so thought I’d try and get some advice before I do

Should be covered under warranty mate…

& if he‘s a mobile mechanic, take it back to him & demand they fix it…

I would guess that he’s used an inferior Chinese aftermarket alternator…

Ask nicely & be patient with him

make sure he spends 30 - 60 mins to diagnose & fix the issue

What's a good price? I took mine to a proper auto electrician, I could get one from $150 up on eBay but he said they can be hit and miss. I was happy to do that except I had to pay him to remove and install it - apparently some you can get the stator off some models but my 07 ute there was absolutely no way I could by myself, the stator was all I wanted to replace but it was jammed behind a heap of silver padding cladding and I can't remember what engine part but from underneath up on struts it was impossible for one person, it took him and his colleague ages so when he called he said perhaps try an OEM (I think my ute used Mitsubishi or Bosch) otherwise as he pointed out you're going to have to pay for labour twice if you just do the stator or use a cheap starter.

I think it was about $290 for the starter and much the same for labour in the end.
I was expecting $150 but hey sometimes this is how it goes.

It’s an alternator bud (not a stator or starter)
