Hi everyone, I am looking to buy another SS to add to my collection and I plan to buy a VE ute SS. Still, I don't know if I should get it in manual or auto mainly because I've heard that the auto transmissions are absolute S*** and break-through gears a lot and from what friends who have owned auto ones say that they have gone through minimum 2-3 gearboxes since owning. would love some advice on this. thank you ❤️

The 6L80e is a good box.
I've had 2 cars with this transmission and they've both been good.

I think manual's are better, I could be biased though.

I planned on buying a manual, but they let me test drive one, wasn't impressed with the shift..
Test drove an auto SSV, ordered an auto Redline, and I loved it.
Now own another 2 6L80e's in utes. MY17 has the best trans programming.

2007 ssv manual
Its all personal preference at the end of the day but I think the manual is more engaging and fun to drive although if you’re sitting in traffic on a daily basis then the fun factor may wear off quickly

Probably don't wait until the factory recommend service interval...

My advice for whatever V8 Commodore you buy:

Manual all the way, especially if it's a VY/VZ as they have the lazy 4 speed auto, which does appeal to some if you just want a cruiser... The 6 speed autos in the VE's are a better performer, however it's still an automatic... Both transmissions are reliable if maintained properly...

However those who want the most enjoyable driving experience usually go for the manuals... Plus, you'll get better resale value and a more reliable drivetrain overall, thanks to the less complex manual transmission....
