Hi Guys..

Got a VE Calais V8!

I have been looking around and trying to find some answers regarding CAI's and well.. searching is hard.

Also. Im a little newb here :)

1. Are they worth it?
2. Does it add much performance?
3. Does it use more petrol?
4. Will there need to be any tuning?
5. If I install it.. .Is there anything that can go wrong? (Not newb mechanically)
6. Whats the best value for money
7. Do they make the car any louder? I have heard they cause a little bit of extra noise (not really wanted)

Thanks.

1. Yep, worth the dollars to do it.
2. They do, coupled in with some other bolt ons the gains can be 30 rwkw plus
3. Can't speak for everyone, but mine is better on fuel. I do have a tune though.
4. As above, they're better if you tune them but you can buy ones that retain the Maf so short answer is no.
5. As long as it's install correctly, which is easy, then you'll be fine
6. lol, there's heaps out there, but you're better to spend a bit extra than go for the cheapest. Stay away from the growler, they're cheap for a reason.
7. No, mine hasn't made any difference.

Okay!
Where do you think i should get a tune.. and how much does it cost?

Also.. What brand do you recommend?
And.. if I get one without a MAF... Can you still drive it to get tuned etc?

Thanks

You're from melbourne?
Chevs in Carrum downs is very good apparently, also GM Motorsport in Melton has a good rep. I've used GM and they were ok.
You can also talk to enhanced, a sponsor on this site, to see what he offers.
Personally i use Oztrack in Sydney and couldn't be happier with his service. My car is tuned using efilive so i don't have to leave the garage, is all done online and is very easy to do.
My otr is made by Duspeed. It's the second one i've had and won't be the last, quality is excellent. To my knowledge you can put them on and still drive it to get tuned without any problems.

My choice for OTR would be Duspeed or VCM. The VCM you can run maf or mafless.

Like Juzo said Chevs is highly recommended by lots of people. Just look on the LS1 forum.

I was there a couple of weeks ago and it's a very professional setup and Chev (Gary) was very helpful.

I'll be getting my mods done through him.
