Nothing stops you from putting them on as a protector (although some of us here differ in views regarding its purposes in engine cooling), just as I and some others have done... up to you though of course.

Thanks, if it came like that from factory, then is good enough for me. If it was supposed to be there and mine was missing, then that's different. I don't care for aesthetics from under the car and whilst it's only a few bolts, it still is more work when it comes to an oil change ;-)

I think the issue is that the D panel under the front fascia used to have a gap between it and the subframe on VE which allowed airflow through to the sump, the VF D panel closes up that gap so with the splash tray on there is zero airflow to the engine at the bottom.
