Been a while since posting a ride on here, so here goes ;)

After owning a few VH's it was time to find a 2tone blue over silver factory 5L 382 pack. I had been hunting on and off for over 2yrs but never found one close enough to good enough, especially for the prices being asked in Sydney for rough examples.
One afternoon whilst waiting for an eBay auction to end on an SLX, I was hunting on gumtree when this one come up in the side suggestions near Adelaide. After making a quick phone call to make sure colour and 5L were legit, a deposit was made and within half an hour the towcar was packed with a mattress and all equipment needed to do a 3,000km round trip, and a trailer was picked up, and I was ready to leave Sydney. One little issue, that SLX was won on eBay, so I picked it up and dropped it home before heading off.
I left Sydney on Sunday at about 1.30pm and picked up my 13yo son on the way so he could experience the road trip. We got to SA around 1am with 3 fuel stops at Wagga Wagga/Hay/Mildura and tried to sleep in the car. Due to light rain, this was not going to work for long as the car got low on oxygen pretty quick, so we stopped for an hour there, and stopped for another hour just before arriving in Mannum SA. I was stressing about being there on time, but didn't factor in the time difference, so we were and hour early. The car was as advertised, started and drove which made things easy, so it was paid for, test driven, and strapped down within half an hour and we were on the return journey. We made it home at 11.30pm Monday night with pretty much the same fuel stops with the vow of never attempting 3,000kms with one driver in 34hrs again lol.

Here's a pic from Sedan South Australia

The guy I bought it off had owned it for 12yrs as the second owner. During this time, he had it resprayed, worked the engine, removed the air con and swapped the traumatic for a Supra 5speed. The interior was a little tired but fixable and the tint was starting to lift. The plan is to restore it to factory spec and fit a set of rims with the only deviation being options available via Brock in the day. More pics to come, here is one of the first resto purchase ;)

Specs when bought:

Engine: VT prefix 308, ported HQ heads, Crane 286 or similar spec cam, Redline Maxitork manifold, Holley Avenger 570cfm auto choke carb, Moroso air filter
Upgrade: 355 stroke, B cast heads, Brock inlet manifold and air cleaner with snorkel. Modded quadrajet, paint it in GM blue two pack and make it look original. Aim is for a stump puller more than grumpy and rev happy like my last stroker

Gearbox: Supra 5 speed with heavy duty clutch and flywheel Upgrade: manualised trimatic with around 2800rpm stall dependent on engine builders recommendation

Exhaust: Genie headers into single 3 inch Upgrade: debadged Pacemakers with a twin system with SL/E style twin tip rear muffler

Diff: Salisbury 10 bolt 3.08 LSD Upgrade 3.55 gears and 4pinion conversion

Mods so far:
-remove and sell black venetian
-remove and sell Supra 5spd for $1000
-remove and sell VB SLE rear bumper
-have trim removed and shampooed
-remove chasers and fit VH SLE "family2" wheels, buy a spare set to mirror polish
-buy a better steering wheel
-Source missing air con, fan shroud and clutch fan
-Buy brock inlet manifold, air cleaner and snorkel
-Buy a clean but non running SLE 381 pack for trim swap and other parts, will end up with cammed LS1 ;)
-Clean undercarriage and sills of red dust from its life in country SA

Parts needed to source: VH/VK long range tank in great nick, another 10 bolt housing, Pacemakers, recoed side strips

Current idle:

SLE bought with clean trim for trim swap, this will be painted up the same as the two tone later on and fitted with a cammed and headed LS1 and built into a tough streeter

The backup SLE had some period goodies lol. Pump up lumbar adjust on the front seats and period rectangular Pioneer 6x9s.

Engine bay loom is a bit of a rats nest. I will install a good one once engine is freshened up

It would be one of the 2 I sold you lol. PM me a price. This one definitely won't be for sale. The guy who bought your old one contacted me on facebook, bit of a strange kid, sent me a message, said I had seen the car in person and the fan shroud was one I sold, then he quit facebook 1 minute later.

I emailed him a few weeks back to try buy it back but he's not letting it go. I haven't been able to find him on any forum or social website to see the cars progress.

You can have one of the shrouds if you want.

Been a bit tardy with updating this due to cleaning out the mess around it lol. Having a big patio, driveway and shed wasn't the best idea for a VH hoarder... The collection was up to 5 VH's and a truckload of parts, but it is all going out the door slowly due to a quiet market and low ballers.
I sold my mint VH SLX for next to nothing, cut up a previous project for the scrapyard, but still have the two SLE's pictured and a silver SLX shell full of fiddly spares that id prefer to get rid of but then id have to find a home for the parts inside :S

The focus has been achieved though. In the last two months I have done the following:
-Had Rochestor recoed by XTreme Fuel Systems
-Sourced B cast heads through a mate
-Sourced a spare fan shroud thanks to Daniel (SLE883)
-Bought a new air con pump and core
-Sold Holley carby and Redline manifold off
-Bought another set of SLE rims
-Recoed radiator

Waiting to pick up a good 10bolt housing on Friday and waiting on some coilovers for the front of my other SLE ;)

There is a little bit happening now that the SLX is sold, the garage is free of excess parts and there is some room to move. The interior has been cleaned of 30yrs of bull dust, trim has been reinstalled, dash is yet to be pulled out and replaced but will be next on the agenda.
I pulled the engine yesterday ready for the heads to be removed and sold. From there it will pretty much be a recoed top end and new lower gaskets and a respray in GMH blue. All black parts will be off to the powdercoaters, the engine bay will be getting blasted and resprayed then the puzzle will be put back together for rego ;)
Some of the goodies collected:

Old manifold off, a tiny lope in cam and a deburred valley hidden underneath

The car come with what i'd class as a bodged up diff being a wagon 10 bolt with sedan shock mounts welded on. After going through the hunt for a replacement diff housing and being dicked around by two pricks who couldn't take pics but were "sure it was a sedan 10 bolt", one was found at a mates place I had forgotten about. Another item for the powdercoater. Cheers LS1lover

Also bought a "NOS" cruise control transducer as a backup, thanks to DerekP for the hook up ;)
