MY17 VFII SS-V Redline Sportwagon
Our MY17 SSV Redline Sportwagon in heron white was stolen from Monash University in Clayton today at 11am.

Car was locked and CCTV shows they gained entry via a remote then started the car 30 min later. Looks like standard security doesn't actually do much.

Standard car except for a Walkinshaw W407 fitted.

Please keep a look out for it.

Victorian registration AMG156
VIN: 6G1FE8EW9HL305008

Sounds like it could be a locksmith job. They can't start the engine without a programmed key and could've been doing that in the 30 mins before driving away. Sorry to hear a mongrel thing like that happening.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

Begs the question whether the PKES system fitted to our vehicles are even fit for purpose if they are so easily gotten around

Really, we should all start to formally badger GM/H and our state consumer groups and ACCC for a fix for this issue (since it’s not at all a new thing and was known before VF was even first sold).

Criminals gonna crim, doesn’t matter what you do someone’s gonna get around it.

Sorry to hear it @Leon771, hope you get some good news. Which I reckon you could, fingers crossed.

AIUI, PKES systems are vulnerable from man in the middle attacks and can be executed 100’s of meters from the car.

Sadly it can be done with one miscreant close to the car while you are 100’s of meters away and walking back to your car with another miscreant trails you some 5 or 10 meters away. That way they can copy a bunch of codes to be used later on to unlock and start the car.

Really need a secret switch to isolate the fuel pump but that 100% deletes the purpose of PKES (which isn’t even designed to be upgradable, just buy a new car with the latest and greatest is the maker’s attitude )…

The security system is good in the sense that you can't hotwire them, but locksmith level key programming software can clone remotes to get into the car with a VIN number that's on the windscreen. Locksmiths should be credible enough not to work for crooks probably wasn't perceived that some may not be. A few locksmiths have been charged with assisting crooks stealing cars and getting into houses etc.

Which is why PKES key encryption based systems need to be upgradable... for a reasonable cost. I might add…

The fact our PKES system isn’t upgradable is a security failure  the fact just replacing a smart key at > $300 or much more for some brands is just greedy fcukers selling their defective product…
