hi guys, got an interesting issue here.

basically what happens is my gauges (fuel, amp, fuel, temp) are all being restricted from their normal value, for example, if i have half a tank of fuel it will read less, if i have 13amps it will show 9 or 10, at full temp my temp gauge shows 1/4, and when i put my foot down and get some revs into the engine all the gauges will pop back to their normal values and work correctly, and i have to do this every time i drive it.

is there a restricter behind the gauges that is playing up or something?

Sounds like an earth has either come loose or the connection has corroded.

its the mysterious case of the switching off alternator!

to this day i still couldnt figure out a fix. someone suggested hooking up the battery warning light, cos 'supposedly' the light worked as a circuit to keep the alt switched on. ill be fked how that would work but i tried everything else and no fix. so: check your battery warning globe. if its blown, replace it.

Id look at a **** connection on the bulk head connector on the firewall first as its easy to get at, lots of commodores Ive seen have had the main positive join fail there and the wire cut out and crimp-linked together . pull it apart clean it checking for loose connections the alter temp and oil pressure wires go thru it.
